Lloydminster Facts!
For those
who are not are not too familiar with Lloydminster, here are some interesting
facts...
- Canada's Border City...in
fact, it is Canada's ONLY border city!
- Lloydminster was settled in
1903, 2 years BEFORE the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan were created. The
4th Meridian was selected as the inter-provincial boundary and since the newly
formed hamlet was located smack in the centre of the Meridian the town was split
in two.
- Both communities continued
to exist as completely separate locations with separate municipal councils, fire
departments and city halls. BUT, in 1930, common sense prevailed and the Town of
Lloydminster was created.
-
As
of the Canada 2006 Census, the population was 24,028 with 15,910 living in
Alberta and the rest on the Saskatchewan side.
- Both sides of Lloydminster
follow Alberta's daylight saving time which places them in the Mountain Time
Zone while the rest of Saskatchewan is in the Central Time Zone and does not
observe the time change twice a year.
